Schools of the Future

A learning community focused on transforming Schools in Hawaii

Hi All - the ISTE SIGIS (Independent Schools Special Interest Group) is having a summer reading book club with the book by Douglas Thomas and Richard Seely Brown "A New Culture of Learning: Cultivating the Imagination for a World of Constant Change". Anyone want to join in? The book was only $9 for the Kindle version. The discussion is going to happen starting June 1 over at the Independent School network ning: http://isenet.ning.com/

Maybe we could form a round table sometime before or after ISTE?

I'm interested, Marc, but I am not able to attend ISTE this year. I'd love to participate in the book discussion anyway if that's ok. I just signed up with the Ning site and will order the book (kindle) right away - sounds interesting:)

Hi Jane

Have read the first 4 chapters - I like the book - It aligns nicely with many of the goals of our SoTF group. The discussion is at the Independent schools ning site - so whether you go to ISTE or not, it will be a great discussion, I suspect

Thanks, Marc. I'm only 2 chapters into it but enjoying it, too. I think the discussion will be interesting - looking forward to it:)

Grant Possibility - Next Generation Learning Challenge

Here is an interesting grant possibility to design a module for middle school students to improve their ability to successfully learn core content standards. Information about the script is here: http://nextgenlearning.org/

they do give two examples of the kind of projects they are looking for:
 A modularized online course of study that may be composed and sequenced with a variety of other materials and deployed in a variety of learning environments. Note: there is not an expectation that an entire year-long course of study be completed.
 An online, collaborative environment in which students are asked to practice and show mastery of literacy Common Core Standards within the context of solving biology problems.
