We're considering buying a digital camera for each teacher to have in their classrooms but can't decide what would work best. Which of the 2 would you recommend: A Flip camera that has everything built in (no need for software and cables) but is designed to be a video camera that you can extract photos out of the video, or a conventional point-and-shoot that does video but you'll need to worry about software and cables after.
Hmmm...I would go with Digital Camera - I would get something simple like a Canon Power Shot A470- we have the ones with the SD cards so we don't need to worry about cables or software - most teachers even have printers with SD slots so they can bypass the computer completely. If you want them to be able to shoot video too, consider the VADO which is about $50 less expensive than the Flip Mini and has fewer compatibility issues if you have pc's and want to use Movie Maker to edit. Vado also has it's own pretty simple software and is plug and play. Between VADO and power shot - we spent about $230 per teacher...
I personally have a FLIP and I love it for video but I can't see how you can take still photos with it. You have to capture them from the video once you are in the software and you don't get the greatest shots when you do that.
Thanks for the thoughts! I think I'm going to go the P&S route mainly because still shots wouldn't be as clean and easy to get out of video. It is an interesting thought to buy both the PowerShot and a VADO though... Hmm...
