Hi All - Interesting webinar conversations this week on both The Future of Education (tonight 4:30pm HST) and Impact of the Internet on Youth and Education (Thursday 3 pm HST). these are both sponsored by our friends at Classroom 2.0. They will be delivered via elluminate web conferencing software. These sessions will be archived as well, so if you can't make a live session you can still attend the recording at a later time.

For those Interested, I will have tonight's topic available in the Weinberg collaboration Cove, if a group conversation more suits your taste. You can also just watched this from any Internet enabled computer by just following the links below.

Keith will talk with us on the topic of "Learning to Change, Changing to Learn: Global Lessons:" Technology in education can be transformative - but it requires strong collaborative leadership and a clear vision and commitment to quality professional development. Hear about the lessons learned from global research on effectiveness of technology in education. Learn about the critical role of the education leaders, both those in charge of technology, as well as those in charge of education, in setting the vision and the essential skills you need for success.

The Thursday session described:
In this event author John Palfrey(Born Digital) will discuss the first generation of “Digital Natives” – children who were born into and raised in the digital world – who are coming of age, and soon our world will be reshaped in their image. Our economy, our politics, our culture and even the shape of our family life will be forever transformed. But who are these Digital Natives?

A message to all members of Classroom 2.0

The Future of Education and PBS Teachers interview series continue this week, starting tonight (Monday, February 23rd) with Keith Krueger, the CEO of the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN.org). Keith will be speaking on "Learning to Change, Changing to Learn: Global Lessons." Keith is a great speaker, and his world-view perspective of education and technology is extremely informative--and worth the later-than-usual start for us (6:30pm Pacific / 9:30pm Eastern). More information on the event and how to log on to attend (free of course) are at http://www.futureofeducation.com/forum/topics/keith-krueger-from-co...

Thursday night (February 26th) John Palfrey, co-author of Born Digital, and a faculty director of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard, will be with us to talk about the myths and realities of the impact of the Internet on youth and education. This event is co-hosted by PBS and Classroom 2.0 and is free as well. More information on the event and how to logon can be found at http://www.classroom20.com/events/pbs-cr-20-john-palfrey-born.

Both interviews will have audience Q&A sessions at the end.

Cheers,

Steve

A message to all members of Classroom 2.0

April 9, 2009 - 5pm Pacific / 8pm Eastern / 12am GMT (next day)

Tonight's Future of Education panel discussion will focus on an area of fascinating interest for me: how the new technologies of the Web are facilitating authentic contributions by both students and teachers outside of traditional school walls and in the public arena. For those familiar with Chris Anderson's book "The Long Tail," we'll be looking at the "Long Tail" as it relates to education.

Who better, then, to join me tonight than Ruth Reynard, Karen Greenwood Henke, Jim Beeghley, and his daughter, Sarah Beeghley? Ruth recently wrote an article that touches on our topic for THE Journal on Web 2.0 & K-12 schools and which can be found at http://www.thejournal.com/articles/23991. Karen blogs at http://www.longtaillearners.com/ on how technology is transforming learning inside and outside our schools. Jim is making a name for himself discussing "Teaching the Civil War with Technology" apart from his real job at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Education. And Jim's daughter, Sarah, is a 6th grade student who has presented with her father at numerous conferences including the Civil War Preservation Trust Teacher's Institute and the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo and Conference. (She is also the creator of the Civil War Sallie project that is traveling around the country learning about the Civil War.)

I hope you'll consider joining us for what promises to be a lively and eye-opening discussion.

Thanks,

Steve
